SCARY SOAP OPERA CHARACTER STORY:
When I was in 5th grade or so … David Selby (who played Quentin Collins) from Dark Shadows – was scheduled to come to the Harrisburg East Mall as a promotion. What a HOTTY! ooh la la
My good buddy Paula and I walked to the mall from her house. We – along with TONS of other panting young girls … were milling all around the end of the mall near Wanamakers near the big Eagle Sculpture that used to be there.
I decided we would have a better view from the 2nd level – since no one seemed to know WHERE he would be when he got there.
All of a sudden we heard murmurs and people shuffling … Paula ran behind me as I RACED DOWN THE escalator towards the first floor.
Next thing you know – I AM NOT 6 TO 12 INCHES from DAVID SELBY – with TONS of other excited girls gathering and pushing behind me!
He’s bent backwards – facing me – and I’m trying to bow or dip my body inward (concave) so as NOT TO PUSH HIM INTO THE mall landscaped area fountain and pond area!
Finally – one of his CREW – GRABBED his hand as he was just about to FALL BACK into the water (the one huge rock stopped it from happening).
They PULLED him out through the girls. They went chasing after him.
I’m told later – they took him to safety at the basement of the mall where the offices are.
The pack of girls wouldn’t stop swarming and murmuring … so they finally just handed out autographed photos.
My 2nd oldest sister worked as a Gimbels store operator … She told me they ended up taking him out a back exit towards the turnpike – where his wife picked him up in their car.
VERY SCARY! I NEARLY DUMPED DAVID SELBY INTO THE POND at the EAST MALL!
THIS IS A TRUE STORY! Thought it was great to share on HALLOWEEN!
